How much does therapy cost?
A guide to everything you need to know about fees, insurance, payment options and more.
Overview
The cost of a therapy session depends on the type and length of the session, your therapist’s experience or specialty, and whether you’re using insurance or private pay.

TIP: We accept all major insurance plans, EAPs, FSA/HSA funds, and private pay. Patient responsibility fees can be paid using major credit cards, bank transfers (through SquareUP), or CareCredit.
Using private pay
The benefits of private pay include more flexibility and clear, predictable pricing. With private pay, you can work with any therapist who feels like a good fit, focus on any issue without needing a formal diagnosis, and know the full cost of each session upfront—no surprise bills.
Our fees:
Intake session (individual): $140
Intake session (couple or family): $160
Regular session (individual): starting at $100
Regular session (couple or family): starting at $120
Therapy with a supervised clinical intern: always $50
TIP: Check the fee for a specific therapist by visiting their therapist profile.
TIP: What is an intake session? Your intake is your first session. It’s completed by an intake specialist. An intake specialist is a therapist trained to take your history, assess your needs and preferences, and help you develop goals for therapy.
Using insurance
We accept all major insurance plans, EAPs, and FSA/HSA. Contact our admin team to be matched with a therapist who is in network with your insurance.
When using insurance, your cost is determined by your specific plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your out-of-pocket cost.
Here is what to ask:
What is my copay or coinsurance for outpatient mental health therapy with an in-network provider?
Do I have a deductible? Has it been met?
What are my out-of-network benefits?
Do I need pre-authorization or referrals for therapy?
Is there a limit to the number of sessions per year?
Are couples, family, or group therapy sessions covered?
TIP: Ask for a reference number for your call. Note down the representative’s name, and the date of your call.
What to expect from the billing process when using insurance
Before your session, we verify your benefits, and prepare an invoice based on the estimate provided to us by your insurance company. Payment of the invoice is due at the time of your session. After the session, we submit a claim to your insurer, who then processes it and sends a final determination. If the final amount differs from the estimate, we update your account with either a credit or a remaining balance.
Please note: insurance estimates are not guarantees. Insurance companies may adjust claims after processing. The only way to fully confirm your out of pocket cost before your session takes place is by speaking directly with your insurer.
Insurance vs. private pay: which one is right for me?
Insurance can make therapy more affordable, but what you pay depends on the details of your plan. This may include a copay, coinsurance, or a deductible. Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis. You are required to work with an in-network therapist, and there may be limits on the number, type, and length of sessions that are covered. In some cases, surprise bills can occur if a claim is denied or if your plan has coverage limits.
Private pay offers more freedom and transparency. You’re free to choose any therapist who feels like the right fit. No formal diagnosis is required, and you can set session lengths and styles to match your needs. Our simple, transparent billing means no hidden surprises.
TIP: If you’re unsure which option makes the most sense, get in touch with our admin team. We’re happy to help you think through your choices, and find a path that feels manageable and supportive.
Affordable options
We offer two lower-cost options to private pay clients: sliding scale sessions, and sessions with a supervised clinical intern.
Sliding scale
Sliding scale slots are limited, income-based, and subject to an application process after completing your intake session.
Individual therapy: starting at $70
Couple or family therapy: starting at $90
Clinical intern sessions
This is our most affordable option. Clinical interns are fully supervised by a licensed therapist. They offer individual, couple, or family sessions. No proof of income is required for work with a clinical intern.
Flat rate: $50 per session
